Starzplay and The Mediapro Studio began shooting Express’ second season. This is the first original international series from the platform to be filmed and produced in Spain. Iñaki Peñafiel (‘Perdida’) and Anaïs Pareto (‘Sinvivir’) direct the show that will be available for Spain and Latin America through the streaming service.
Laura Fdez Espeso, Javier Mendez, Javier Pons and Iván Escobar are executive producers from The Mediapro Studio. Meanwhile, Mireia Acosta and Peter Tortorici supervise for Starzplay. The eight episodes are scheduled to shoot for 11 weeks on location in and around the city of Madrid.
"Express" is the first local production from Starzplay to be renewed. The platform is developing different shows through co-production opportunities to offer a bold and curated catalog for users. The action thriller is written by Iván Escobar (‘Locked Up’), Antonio Sánchez Olivas (‘Aida’) and Martín Suárez (‘Rabia’), and created by Iván Escobar, who also serves as showrunner.
Maggie Civantos (‘Vis a Visr’) returns as Barbara, the criminal psychologist who once was a victim of an express kidnapping, currently working as a negotiator to solve cases similar to hers. Also reprising their roles include Kiti Mánver (‘El Inconveniente’), Vicente Romero (‘Cell 211’), Loreto Mauleón (‘Patria’), Esteban Meloni (‘Los Internacionales’), Alba Planas (‘SKAM’), Omar Banana (‘Veneno’), Bernardo Flores (‘Women in Charge’) and the young actresses Carmen Daza and Manuela Rojas.
Joining the cast for season two are Alejo Sauras (‘Estoy Vivo’) as Iker Torres, the new police chief, and Laura Laprida (‘Millennials’) as Asia, the new member to the express team who will help the team solve cases due to her unmatched gift.
In season two of “Express”, Barbara will discover that the express kidnappings that they have been tasked to solve are just the tip of the iceberg of an industry built and sustained on fear; and that the company employing them, Zentral Risk, are major players in a far reaching and pervasive system of corruption that will continue to put the lives of her family in increasing jeopardy. Barbara finds hope in the relationship with the new commissar (Sauras) and the Express Team grows with a new member, Asia (Laprida), who has a dark and strange past.
The Mediapro Studio Distribution will manage the series’ international sales.
