Paramount executive David Urgell has been appointed as VP of Distribution & Partnerships at SkyShowtime, the streaming service that Comcast and Paramount will launch on September 20 as a result of their joint venture.

Urgell had most recently been Senior Vice President of Strategy, Operations & Business Development at Paramount’s international streaming division, a role he had held since 2020, and which saw him work across Pluto TV and Paramount+, as well as SkyShowtime. Before that, he had been SVP of Business Development & Content Distribution at ViacomCBS Network EMEA (now rebranded Paramount), where he oversaw the roll-out of streamers such as Noggin and Nick+ around the world.

SkyShowtime will launch in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden on September 20, before expanding into the Netherlands later this year. The platform will continue its roll out across Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) over the coming months and through the first quarter of 2023. CEE markets include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The service will bring together the best entertainment from the world’s greatest studios and storytellers. Featuring thousands of hours of quality entertainment for the whole family, the service will be home to a wide selection of the world’s most highly anticipated series and movies. It will also feature the exclusive television premieres of first-run theatrical films from Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures.
