Starzplay to premiere "Queer as Folk" in the UK, Europe, and Latin America

The title distributed by NBCUniversal is set to debut on the platform in the UK on Friday, 1st July and in the remaining territories on Sunday, 31st July.

Starzplay has acquired “Queer as Folk” from NBCUniversal Global Distribution for its service in Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America, Luxembourg, Spain, Netherlands, the Nordics and the UK. “The original ‘Queer as Folk’ truly broke new ground in the television space and that innovative spirit perfectly aligns with the STARZPLAY slate of bold, unique, and complex storytelling,” said Jeff Cooke, Senior Vice President of Programming, International Networks. “We are elated to be the exclusive global home of the reimagined 2022 ‘Queer as Folk’ and look forward to our audiences devouring each episode this summer.”

The eight-episode series will premiere in the UK on Friday, 1 July, with other local premieres rolling out exclusively in Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America, Luxembourg, Spain, Netherlands and the Nordics on Sunday, 31st July. Two new episodes are set to air each week.  Produced by UCP, a division of the Universal Studio Group, “Queer as Folk” reenacts the British series created by Russell T. Davies and explores a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

The series stars Devin Way as Brodie, Fin Argus as Mingus, Jesse James Keitel as Ruthie, CG as Shar, Johnny Sibilly as Noah and Ryan O’Connell as Julian. O’Connell also serves as a writer and co-executive producer on the series. Guest stars this season include Kim Cattrall as Brenda, Juliette Lewis as Judy, Ed Begley Jr as Winston, Armand Fields as Bussey, Chris Renfro as Daddius, Eric Graise as Marvin, Sachin Bhatt as Ali, Benito Skinner as Jack Cole Jordan, Nyle DiMarco, Lukas Gage as Eric, Megan Stalter as Meg, Olli Haaskivi as George and Calvin Seabrooks as Taylor.

Dunn is creator, writer and executive producer of the series; he also directed the pilot and additional episodes. Jaclyn Moore also serves as an executive producer and writer on the show. Other executive producers include Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht,  original British series creator Davies, Nicola Shindler and Louise Pedersen on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributes both the format and the original British series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4. Brian Dannelly also serves as executive producer and directed several episodes.
