Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) announced that its Viaplay streaming service added 36.000 Nordic subscribers and 286.000 international subscribers in the third quarter of the year. At the same time, Viaplay revenues (36% of sales) were up 15% year-over-year on an organic basis after 28% year-over-year subscriber growth.

Furthermore, total streamed minutes of Viaplay viewing of its original content was up 38% year-over-year, while the coverage of the Bundesliga, English Premier League, UEFA competitions and Formula One all boosted the sports viewing levels. The company increased its Viaplay Originals ambition to at least 50 productions for this year and more than 60 for next year, and secured several major new sports rights for years to come.

“Q3 was another important step on the path towards our five-year goals as the international streaming challenger. We reached a number of new milestones including the important launch of Viaplay in Poland, our ninth and largest market so far. The launch was a success and we have established strong local distribution partnerships, contributing to a total of 313.000 paying international Viaplay subscribers by the end of Q3. This combined with our growth in the Nordics and Baltics, resulted in 28% year-over-year growth to over 3.6 million subscribers,”  said Anders Jensen, President and CEO of NENT Group.

“We updated our strategic targets at the recent Capital Markets Day and announced that Viaplay will launch in five new markets by the end of 2023, taking the total to 16, and with the aim of having 12 million total subscribers by the end of 2025. We are well on track to our year-end target of adding at least 400.000 Nordic subscribers and 500.000 international subscribers in 2021. Our 10% group organic revenue growth was primarily driven by Viaplay, which is now established as our largest revenue generating unit, as well as the continuing recovery in advertising spending,”  Jensen added.
