Global free ad-supported streaming network wedotv has partnered with ZDF Studios to launch a new single-IP FAST channel, "wedotv: Legacy," featuring the acclaimed South African drama series "Legacy." Announced during Mipcom 2025 in Cannes, the partnership marks a strategic expansion for both companies into the FAST channel ecosystem with a content offering tailored for high viewer engagement.
“When ZDF Studios came to us with the idea of a channel dedicated to 'Legacy,' we wanted to make sure the key elements of a successful single IP channel were in place: quality, quantity, story, and proven audience ratings generator. 'Legacy' has all of those key qualities in spades,” said Philipp Rotermund, CEO of wedotv. “It’s also incredibly compelling and binge-worthy, which helps keep viewers engaged within the platform ecosystem, which is essential for advertisers.”
Florian Streit, Director of Drama at ZDF Studios, emphasized the strategic advantage of single IP FAST channels: “There is a real upside to creating and launching a channel like 'wedotv: Legacy' — it has a built-in fan base. Single IP channels work well because they are immediately identifiable to fans. 'Legacy' is also a long-running series that maintains an exceptional level of quality across all episodes.”
"Legacy" (104 x 45') immerses audiences in the opulent and dangerous world of the Price family, investment billionaires entangled in a web of power struggles, family betrayal, and high-stakes intrigue. Produced by M-Net, a division of MultiChoice and part of the Canal+ Group, the series was created by Gwydion Beynon and Phathutshedzo Makwarela. The cast includes Dawid Minnaar, Sean-Marco Vorster, and Michelle Botes, among others.
The new channel, created and distributed by wedotv, will be available in English across key territories including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, with subtitling available in additional markets.
With 104 episodes ready for binge consumption and a narrative rich in drama and character depth, "wedotv: Legacy" is positioned to attract loyal viewership and deliver strong advertising value, reinforcing the growing trend toward single IP FAST channels in the evolving AVOD landscape.
