Globo will be present at MIPCOM 2024, an event in Cannes featuring the biggest names in the audiovisual industry, with the launch of series and documentaries, as well as telenovelas, classic titles, and formats. Among the highlights are the Globoplay Originals “The Game,” the second season of “The Others,” the documentary series “Rio-Paris - The Tragedy of Flight 447,” and the telenovela “Rebirth.” The company also presents at MIPCOM the telenovela “Crazy About You,” by João Emanuel Carneiro ("Avenida Brasil"), currently airing in prime time on TV Globo.
To showcase its new releases, the company will host a cocktail event on the 21st at 5:30 p.m. at the Producers Hub. The following day, at 8:30 a.m., Pablo Ghiglione, Head of International Coproductions, will participate in the “Drama Co-Production Breakfast,” also at the Producers Hub.
Pablo Ghiglione referred to the DNA of GLOBO's production:“We have prepared a portfolio for MIPCOM that showcases our ability to meet various market needs. We offer action and suspense plots, lighter dramas, documentary series, and classic stories. We also invest in the format sales model because we believe it is a way to blend our DNA with local production,” commented
“Crazy About You” is based on the friendship between two young women, Viola (Gabz from "Perfect Love") and Luma (Agatha Moreira, from ‘Hidden Truths’), who seem predestined to enter each other’s lives. With a journey divided between complicity and rivalry, which includes them in a love quartet with Mavi (Chay Suede, from "A Mother’s Love") and Rudá (Nicolas Prattes, from ‘All the Flowers’) and is impacted by a series of circumstances, twists and surprises, such as the secrecy surrounding a murder.
Created by José Junior (from "Anti-Kidnapping Unit" and "Dissident Archangel") and AfroReggae Audiovisual, “The Game” depicts the rise of drug trafficking factions, based on events that have occurred in Rio de Janeiro over the past 40 years. Directed by Heitor Dhalia, the Globoplay Original series features a cast including Rômulo Braga ("Rota 66: The Killer Uni"’), Jonathan Azevedo ("Edge of Desire"), Babu Santana ("Perfect Love"), Ravel Andrade ("Aruanas"), Pedro Wagner, and Bukassa Kabengele, among others.
After a successful first season, “The Others,” created by Lucas Paraizo ("Under Pressure") with artistic direction by Luisa Lima ("Where My Heart Is"), retains the essence of the polarized interactions between neighbors in its second season. In a narrative that magnifies family and social relationships, the series features developments that are often absurd and unexpected, stemming from extreme actions. The cast includes names such as Adriana Esteves (‘Brazil Avenue’), Letícia Colin ("All The Flowers"), Eduardo Sterblitch, Thomás Aquino, Sérgio Guizé ("The Other Side of Paradise"), among others.
The documentary series “Rio-Paris - The Tragedy of Flight 447” reconstructs, step by step, one of the accidents that most transformed global aviation safety. With 228 people on board, the Air France plane disappeared a few hours after departing from Rio de Janeiro. The production details how an unfortunate chain of events, technological failures, and procedural errors led to the plane’s crash into the sea. The series includes research from French court cases, investigations by Brazilian authorities, 3D art recreations, and transcriptions of the black box recordings.
In addition, Globo continues to invest in the business model of selling scripted and unscripted formats, with one of its most notable examples being the agreement with the production company Ay Yapım for the adaptation of “Brazil Avenue.” Some of the products that will be showcased at MIPCOM include the telenovelas “The Life We Lead,” “The Other Side of Paradise,” and “Hidden Truths.” For unscripted formats, the company is presenting “Que Seja Doce” (‘Let It Be Sweet’), a baking competition, and “What is Your Story,” which features celebrities and ordinary people sharing unusual and amusing stories.
Globo will also showcase at MIPCOM the telenovela “Rebirth,” written by Bruno Luperi, with artistic direction by Gustavo Fernández, the same names responsible for the success of “Pantanal,” and titles such as “Crossed Paths” and “Land of Desire.” The portfolio also includes Globoplay Originals like the series “Rensga Hits,” “Justice: Misconduct,” winner of the Grand Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards, and “Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” as well as documentaries like “The Brazilian Mafia” and “Black Resistance.” The company also takes storylines from the “Classic & Big Hits” project, such as “Terra Nostra” and “India: A Love Story.”
Angela Colla, Head of International Business and Coproductions mentioned those markets where the company wants to expand its presence: “We are excited for another edition of MIPCOM and it will be great to talk to our partners and open up new opportunities. It is also a good time to meet clients from regions such as Europe, Asia and the Middle East, for example, which are territories where we want to strengthen our presence. We are open to new business models, as we understand that this is very important in a market as dynamic as ours and the diversity of our portfolio reflects this,” noted.
