Audiovisual from Spain, an ICEX Spain Trade & Investment brand, is organising Spain's participation in Content London 2022, a bilateral meeting between UK and Spanish companies. Under the title, the UK's path to European copros and in the format of a working lunch, the event will bring together for the first time 75 professionals from both countries interested in the co-production and financing of scripted series projects. This activity aims to establish new professional bridges between the two industries, given that Spain may become in the coming years not only the most important audiovisual hub in Europe, but also a key community partner for the United Kingdom, which has been left out of the European Union's main audiovisual support programmes.
The first edition of this event will include a case study to analyse the success of the miniseries 'Crossfire', coproduced by RTVE and recently released on BBC One, as one of the latest examples of Anglo-Spanish co-production. The panel will include the participation of Mar Díaz, Fiction Executive Producer at Spanish pubcaster RTVE; Rebecca Dundon, Senior VP Scripted Content International at Fremantle; and Chris Carey, Managing Director of Dancing Ledge Productions and executive producer of the series. The panel will be moderated by Al de Azpiazu, Senior VP Distribution French Speaking Europe, Italy & Iberia at Fremantle.
The companies participating in Content London 2022 under Audiovisual from Spain are Beta Entertainment Spain, Beta Fiction Spain, Ficción Producciones, Inside Content, Mediacrest, Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group, Movistar Plus+ International, Onza Entertainment, Plano a Plano, RTVE and TV On Producciones.
Up to three Spanish entertainment formats have been chosen among the eight shortlisted projects participating in the C21 Global Entertainment Format Pitch, the pitching session organised in collaboration with ITV Studios. “House of Dreams” (reality) is the proposal to be presented by the Mediacrest team, represented by Hugo Tomás, Head of Entertainment; and Emma García, VP International Sales and Coordination. Eric Marodon and Manuel Feijoo, from iZen's International Creative Development department, will be in charge of pitching the formats “Black Card” (reality with a competition component) and “Secret School Musical” (reality).
In the scripted front, C21's International Drama Awards include among its candidates the series “Venga Juan” (third season of the comedy produced by The Mediapro Studio for HBO Max), which gets two nominations for Best New Drama Season and Best Individual Performance in a Drama for its leading actor Javier Cámara.
Spanish talent will have a relevant participation in the official conference programme: three national tv channels executives will take part in panels focused on their original production strategy in different genres, including entertainment formats in the session “Commissioning: European Unscripted Formats”, with the participation of Ana Cueto, Head of Research at Atresmedia; content for young-adult audiences will be analysed in “Commissioning: YA Platforms”, in which the Director of Digital Content Alberto Fernández will present the RTVE Playz model; and scripted series, with the participation of Diego del Pozo, Manager of Fiction Content at Atresmedia, in the panel “Commissioning: European Drama”.
