"Un Novio Para Mi Mujer"
Filmsharks’ subsidiary label, The Remake Co., has sealed a US deal for the English language remake rights to "Un Novio Para Mi Mujer", the number one film in LATAM in 2008. Impossible Garden’s Andy Schefter optioned the English language Remake rights and will produce the film, titled "A Boyfriend for My Wife", alongside New Rebellion Entertainment’s Tim Sullivan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cooper Tomlinson. Amanda Delaplaine will serve as Associate Producer.
The story of a shy man who looks to break up his intense marriage by hiring a very peculiar old school ladies-man to seduce his wife so she leaves him. "Un Novio Para Mi Mujer" was produced by Patagonik, and sold internationally by FilmSharks. Distributed by Walt Disney Motion Pictures Studios, the film made over 1.5 million in ticket sales, and is known for its global record as having the most successful remakes of a film ever optioned, sold and produced, including major versions in China, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Chile and Korea. A recent Spanish version produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures along Universal Pictures Spain and Amazon Prime Video Spain and it was a global sales success in 2023. In another development, “Me casé con un boludo" ("I Married A Dumbass"), from the same team of "A Boyfriend For My Wife", was optioned for Chinese Remake to Slinky Town Pictures, one of the most important Chinese companies. The deal was negotiated by Guido Rud and Jon Chiew and, The Remake Co. clinched an Indian remake rights deal with Indian-American producer Shyam Madiraju of Germ to slow burn dramatic thriller “Calladita” ("The Quiet Maid"), on the hottest Berlin titles sold widely for FilmSharks.
NEW GLOBAL SALES
In the frame of Berlin Festival, Filmsharks has also sold "Boogeyman: The Origin of The Myth" ("El Hombre Del Saco") to RUSIA/CIS for theatrical release to Nashe Kino, to Cambodia and Laos for theatrical Westec, and to Busch Medien for German Speaking Europe. Previous deals for the title include Mantícora that has picked up all rights for Latin America, the U.S and and Canada, also Amazon's Prime Video has acquired Spanish SVOD rights, and Antena 3 grabbed free-TV rights.
On another deals, "The Restless Watner, Shivering Lights" was optioned by Alfa in Spain for theatrical; by Kinologistica for Russia/CIS and "Nine Queens" remastered in 4k, considered one of the best Thrillers of all time, just got sold to France to Eurozoom for theatrical release. Spanish deal is imminent. Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, UK are in discussions. "We are finding home for top notch concepts that distributor can theatrically market as refreshing concepts," concluded Rud.
