"Reincarnate"
Globo is making waves internationally with two major milestones for its original content. The first-ever Globoplay Original horror series, "Reincarnate", will have its world premiere at the Berlinale Series Market on February 18th, while ‘Raul Seixas: Let Me Sing', a Globoplay Original, is set to be the first Brazilian production ever selected for the prestigious Series Mania festival. Both events highlight the growing influence of Brazilian narratives in global entertainment markets and underscore Globo’s commitment to showcasing authentic Brazilian stories to the world.
“Reincarnate”, which will be presented during the 11th edition of the Berlinale Series Market, has been selected as one of only 17 productions worldwide for the event. This thrilling horror series, created by a collective team including Juan Jullian, Igor Verde, Elísio Lopes Jr, Amanda Jordão, and Flávia Lacerda, tells the gripping story of Feliciano, a Brazilian surgeon willing to go to extreme lengths to save his wife, Cássia, from death.
The series, which touches on themes of identity and the complex relationships between life and death, will feature moments of intense horror, romance, and existential questioning. It stars a talented Brazilian cast, including Enrique Diaz, Taís Araujo, Julia Dalavia, and Welket Bungué, alongside Portuguese actress Isabél Zuaa. The premiere will be attended by key members of the creative team, including the author Juan Jullian, artistic director Bruno Safadi, and Guinean actor Welket Bungué, and will offer a unique opportunity for international audiences to experience a radically Brazilian narrative.
As Igor Verde, one of the series’ creators, emphasized, the invitation to premiere “Reincarnate” at the Berlinale is a confirmation of the series' bold approach to storytelling: “The European Film Market is an important guide to the narratives that are generating interest worldwide. The invitation to premiere in Berlin confirms this aim and gives us an opportunity to tell this story at an event that brings together various players from the global audiovisual industry.” In addition to “Reincarnate”, Globo will also be present at the Berlinale with the feature film O Último Azul by Gabriel Mascaro, which is in the running for the coveted Golden Bear," commented.
Meanwhile, ‘Raul Seixas: Let Me Sing’, a series celebrating the life and music of the iconic Brazilian singer Raul Seixas, will have its worldwide premiere at Series Mania, one of the most prestigious international festivals dedicated to television series. From March 21st to 28th, the series will compete in the International Panorama Competition alongside productions from countries such as Iran, Spain, Belgium, and Norway. This selection marks a historic moment as ‘Raul Seixas: Let Me Sing’ is the first Brazilian production to be chosen for the competition, where it will vie for top honors such as Best Series, Best Directing, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Starring Ravel Andrade as Raul Seixas, the series explores the artist’s cultural, political, and spiritual influences, as well as his personal struggles with addiction, relationships, and the quest for creative freedom.
Finally, Alex Medeiros, Head of Drama, Documentaries, and Films at Globoplay Originals, reflected on the significance of these international achievements: “For us at Globoplay, it is a great source of pride to have the first Brazilian series selected for Series Mania. This announcement comes at the same time that we have Reincarnate making its world premiere at the Berlinale and as we eagerly support our film I’m Still Here at the Oscars. This highlights the strength of our original content and the ability of our Brazilian stories to travel the world.” ‘Raul Seixas: Let Me Sing’ is another key collaboration between Globoplay and O2 Filmes, a production company renowned for its artistic quality and track record in the Brazilian film and television industry," stated.
