Globo marked its 100th anniversary with the "Summit Acontece Globo," held on the opening day of Rio2C 2025. The event underscored the strategic role of collaboration in driving industry growth, offering a full day of panels on key sectors including serialized drama, journalism, sports, and emerging content trends.

As a cornerstone of Brazil’s audiovisual landscape for a century, Globo used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to the national industry and spotlight the creative and commercial partnerships that have defined its legacy. The summit served as the official launch of Globo’s participation in Latin America’s largest creativity event, placing a strong emphasis on how collective innovation will shape the future of Brazilian media.

Paulo Marinho, CEO of Globo, emphasized the company's commitment to the industry, recalling recent achievements such as the film "O Último Azul," which won the Silver Bear at Berlin; Brazilian director Mariana Brennan, recently recognized at Cannes; and the first Oscar in Brazilian cinema history with "I’m Still Here" an Globoplay Original film. "Being the largest producer of Portuguese-language content and one of the biggest investors in the Brazilian audiovisual market speaks to our commitment to quality, talent, and the appreciation of our cultural expressions and partnerships. We aim to intensify these agreements further, seeking models that promote innovation, expand content reach, and generate significant results for all," said the executive.

To understand the elements shaping the pulse of Brazilian culture, Iara Poppe, Globo's Research Specialist, presented the "Ginga Pop" study, offering deep insights into what has been successful in media and social networks in Brazil, with examples showing how friendship, religion, and artificial intelligence are resonating among Brazilians.

Contrasting with global industry trends, Virginia Mouseler, CEO of The WIT – a global intelligence hub for the audiovisual content industry – took the stage to present tools and insights guiding content production in Brazil and worldwide. In an interview with host Laura Vicente, the executive highlighted formats trending in different countries and reiterated the importance of local culture in production to meet the demand for content that reflects audiences' realities.

Focusing on the relevance of partnerships, the panel "Building Bridges: Partnership Experiences in Audiovisual" discussed the importance of collaborative action for market advancement. Alex Medeiros, Head of Drama, Documentaries & Films Content at Globoplay and Globo Filmes, joined Renata Brandão from Conspiração Filmes, Renato D'Angelo from Disney, and Fabiano Gullane from Gullane Filmes. The guests highlighted how the Brazilian industry is experiencing international recognition, being seen and acknowledged at major festivals. Upcoming releases include Globo Filmes' new film "Escola sem Muros," produced by Gullane and directed by Cao Hamburger, starring Júlio Andrade; and the new film from the Globoplay and Disney partnership, "In The Garden of The Ogre" an adaptation of the book by Franco-Moroccan author Leila Slimani, with filming set to begin in the second half of this year in São Paulo. The film stars Alice Braga, directed by Carolina Jabor, and produced by Conspiração.

Subsequently, César Tralli and Renata Lo Prete led a discussion on the challenges of journalism in times of misinformation and the importance of transparency as a tool to strengthen credibility with the audience. During the conversation, they highlighted how trust in journalism is built daily through ethics, impartiality, responsibility, proximity, and, above all, transparency, from the fact-checking processes to the editorial criteria guiding coverage, mentioning the "Fato ou Fake" project created by Grupo Globo in 2018.

The strength of Brazilian drama was the theme of a conversation between writers Manuela Dias and Rosane Svartman, creators of "Anything Goes" and "Dona de Mim," currently airing on TV Globo, and George Moura, one of the creators and writers of 'Love is a Knife,' premiering on June 11 on Globoplay and Globoplay Novelas. Moderated by Leonora Bardini, director of the TV Globo channel, the discussion addressed the challenges of producing telenovelas today, highlighting the genre's relevance to Brazilian culture. Topics included different consumption patterns, the variety of formats, the sense of belonging generated by telenovelas, and their social role.

The national passion for sports and the creation of national heroes set the tone for the conversation between Daiane dos Santos and Isaquias Queiroz with journalist Pedro Bassan about the impact of sports journalism in creating national heroes, emphasizing how journalism contributes to transforming stories of overcoming challenges into inspiring narratives.
