Globo’s telenovela “Orphans of a Nation” was recently nominated for the first time to the Rose D’Or Awards, a traditional award ceremony that happens in London and highlights the main global productions in the audiovisual market.
Written by Thelma Guedes and Duca Rachid – winners of the International Emmy Award for Best Novela in 2014 for “Precious Pearl” – and directed by Gustavo Fernandéz, “Orphans of a Nation” was nominated in the category Soaps or Telenovelas.
The telenovela that touched the Brazilian audience about the forbidden love story between Jamil (Renato Góes) and Laila (Julia Dalavia) will also be the highlight of Globo at MIP Cancun, showcasing the first episode during a breakfast & screening on November 21 at the Cancun Theater.
Throughout the plot, two Syrian refugees need to leave their homeland and go to Brazil to rebuild their lives. But, in order to live their love, they need to overcome many barriers. Promised to the powerful sheik Aziz, Laila escapes with her parents to São Paulo. However, Jamil, Aziz’s godson, is sent to Brazil to take her back and force her to fulfill the marriage contract. Jamil ends up falling in love with Laila and they decide to get married, awakening Aziz’s wrath. After the sheik is mysteriously murdered, his daughter Dalila resumes her father’s revenge plan, doing everything she can to separate the couple.
