MIPCOM REVEALS SHORTLIST FOR ITS DIVERSIFY TV EXCELLENCE AWARDS

The 21 titles, selected by a re-selection jury of MIP Markets and Diversity Advisory Board members, will be acknowledged at the award show, which will be held on 13th October in Paris.

Reed Midem announced a shortlist of programs for all of the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards. It will be held on Tuesday, 13th October from 18:00-19:30 in Paris. The event will be live-streamed globally on MIPCOM’s Online+.

The theme of the award show is a change for good, reflected in the programming, which promoted diversity and inclusion in all its forms in the TV industries worldwide. The shortlist features a broad selection highlighting a variety of new and established creatives from around the world, including major linear and non-linear broadcasters from 21 countries across all continents. 

The 21 programs that were selected for presentation at the award show were reviewed by a pre-selection jury. The Pre-Selection Jury includes members of the MIP Markets Diversity Advisory Board, along with a panel of industry experts from companies like ViacomCBS, BBC Studios, Nickelodeon, Scorpion, and A+T Networks, among many others. The critics are required to ensure a fair representation of BAME, LGBTQ+, and other communities, and a sense of originality in the storytelling, production, and casting values of the nominees.  Ultimately, the winning programs will be chosen by Fondation Mozaïk, GADIM, GLAAD, Mencap, Minority Rights Group, OutRight Action International, SCOPE, Show Racism the Red Card, and Stonewall.

The themes covered include political betrayal, the fight for sexual freedom, transgender issues, addiction, teen mental health, and the impact of Covid-19. The titles listed are the following: “The Accident,” produced by The Forge and distributed by All3media, Keshet’s “The A Word,” Black Sheep Films “Mental,” distributed by Magnify Media. The titles listed for the representation of Disability Non-Scripted include “The Loop,” “Auténticos,” “Employable Me Canada.” For Representation of Race and Ethnicity – Scripted, “Twenties,” “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” and “Total Control,” are listed. Non-Scripted titles for Representation of Race and Ethnicity include “Marry Me, Marry My Family,” “The School That Tried To End Racism,” and “VICE News Tonight.” MIPCOM Diversify TV’s Excellence Award for Kids’ Programming includes “Pablo,” “Lockdown,” and “Then Something Changed.”
