FREE-TO-AIR CHANNELS REMAIN STRONG IN SPAIN

According to Barlovento Comunicación, 67% of TV viewing on pay TV platforms corresponds to FTA channels, and for the 33% who actually watches pay TV channels, Movistar La Liga, Fox, AXN and Calle 13 tops the rankings of channels.

Pay TV subscribers in Spain watch more free-to-air (FTA) channels than pay TV on their pay TV platforms, according to a report from the consultancy firm Barlovento Comunicación. In fact, the investigation reveals that 67% of TV viewing on pay TV platforms corresponds to FTA channels.

For the 33% who watch pay TV channels on the pay TV platforms, Movistar La Liga, Fox, AXN and Calle 13 tops the rankings of channels. Overall, in October of this year, pay TV took an audience share of 25.6% (including IPTV, cable, satellite) versus DTT’s 74.4%.

In October, Spaniards spent an average 3 hours and 39 minutes in front of a TV, with Tele 5 leading the audience share claiming 15.7%, followed by Antena 3 with 11.3% and La 1 with 9.7%.
