Filmax has acquired the international sales rights for "Mouths of Sky", a four-part Basque-language detective thriller produced by Garabi Films and Txintxua Films in collaboration with EiTB. Produced by Marian Fernández Pascal ("Intimacy" – TV Series) and Koldo Almandoz, the series premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival and will soon air on EITB, followed by its release on RTVE Play, Spain’s public network streaming platform. All four episodes are already available for international buyers to screen.

The plot of the series centers around Nerea García, a woman marked by a dark past and looking for redemption as she dives head first into a dangerous investigation. The ambiguous character Lertxundi, Nerea’s old boss, will prove to be key in unraveling the mystery.

"Mouths of Sky" is directed by Koldo Almandoz, well-known for his ability to tackle profound and complex issues, with some of his films being selected and winning awards at prestigious international festivals, such as Cannes and Rotterdam. Almandoz was also in charge of directing the first season of the series, "Mouths of Sand", and has also penned the script for this second season, along with Harkaitz Cano ("Black Is Beltza"). Joining Nagore Aranburu in the cast are Josean Bengoetxea ("The Chapel"), Sara Cozar ("20,000 Species of Bees"), Miren Gaztañaga ("The Platform") and Ramon Agirre ("Money Heist"), among others.

Marian Fernández Pascal, producer of the series, tells us why she is so passionate about this project: ‘"Zeru Ahoak" ("Mouths of Sky") gets you hooked right from the get-go and manages to hold the suspense right until the very end. Each new episode sees the plot twisting even further and becoming darker, more intense, and more morally challenging," commented.

Meanwhile, Iván Díaz, Head of International at Filmax, explains what most seduced him about the series: ‘When we sold "Mouths of Sand," we were left wanting more because it was a short series. It was clear that such a special universe deserved continuity and more episodes. We’re thrilled that now they’re here and that the universe has grown with even more production value than before," noted.

The titles follows Nerea García who is going through a rough patch. Four years have passed since she was kicked out of the police, and she’s been living an isolated life, hidden away in her house in Bilbao. But when the body of a woman turns up, apparently murdered in some kind of ritual killing, her old boss gets in touch to ask for help with the investigation. What Nerea doesn’t suspect is that the ghosts of her past and present will force her to return to the dark, dirty streets of the city, where nothing and no one is what it seems.
