Filmax has taken the international rights to ‘The Elderly,’ directed by Raul Cerezo and Fernando Gonzalez Gomez (The Passenger). The film is a feature-length horror in which the octogenarian Manuel enters into a state of dementia after the sudden suicide of his wife, sparking a series of paranormal events that will put his family's lives at risk. The movie stars Zorion Eguileor, from Netflix's hit genre-movie, ‘The Platform’ (audience award winner at the film festivals in Toronto and Sitges, also winning the award for Best Film at the latter), Gustavo Salmeron (Lots of Kids, a Monkey, and a Castle), Paula Gallego (The Passenger) and Irene Anula. The producers are Jose Luis Rancaño (Persons Films) and Mamen Espinosa (La Dalia Films)”.

Filmax will be presenting the film during the Cannes film market, where buyers will be able to see the first promo. The feature is due to be completed in June of this year. “The forgotten ones, the rejected ones, the elderly... that part of society which we belittle and push to one side now has something to say. We’ve been ignoring them for far too long and now, it’s too late. Their revolution has arrived!” Raul Cerezo & Fernando Gonzalez Gomez said.

“With 'The Elderly,' Persons Films has definitively consolidated itself as a creator of genre cinema. As always, we have chosen to work with creatives who are totally committed to the project and are proud to say that the whole team shares the same audiovisual philosophy; one that is based on quality and whose objective is to showcase the talents of new filmmakers. The Elderly is the second genre film we've produced with La Dalia Films and we are extremely proud of the work we've done. We strongly believe that we've made a very courageous genre movie, that will leave no viewer indifferent, whether they are young or elderly!” says Persons Films producer Jose Luis Rancaño.

“The acquisition of 'The Elderly' is yet another example of Filmax's good eye when it comes to quality, genre movies. The film is one of our strongest horror presentations at Cannes this year and is akin to the type of films clients are used to us bringing to the market, such as the highly successful and now legendary REC franchise, among others. What stands out most for me with this film is the extreme care that has been taken over every detail, from the film's look to the sound and the music, which completely submerge the audience in its disturbing atmosphere,” Ivan Diaz, Head of International at Filmax, has added.
