Insight TV has partnered with G2 Esports for the co-production of the first programming version of its online esports talent search series “Making the Squad: FIFA Edition. “G2’s founder and legendary esports player turned CEO, Carlos ‘ocelote’ Rodriguez will be bringing his unmatched energy and passion as a judge, challenging contestants to fight for success, all the time balancing entertainment and skill,” said Arun Maljaars, Vice President, Content & Channels at Insight TV.

The first televised version, “Making the Squad: FIFA Edition” is based on the new FIFA 21 game from Electronic Arts (“EA”). It is currently in pre-production, with plans to be filmed in 4K UHD. Casting for participants is underway and contestants will train at the G2 Esports Academy in Berlin.

The eight-part series reflects Insight TV’s focus on relevant story-telling for a millennial audience in the esports and entertainment industries. Pringles will serve as the presenting partner for the series. Part of its sponsorship will consist of special features in which contestants and the audience will form part of a chance to participate through the programming or social media.

Each contestant will undergo an interview and receive a visit to their hometowns to pinpoint the factor that motivates them to join the esports game, such as friends and family. The participants will also receive the opportunity to meet and receive mentorship from top esports players.

Throughout the competition, players will be tested on their  gaming skills for the new season and their skills while transferring the digital knowledge they learned through the console into productive tactics and challenges on the field in real life. The outcome of the IRL challenges will give certain players a strategic advantage in the gaming challenge, but ultimately their performance in FIFA 2021 will determine the fate of the contestants and the winner who will leave with €10,000. “What makes this series so unique is the fact that it bridges the virtual and real football (soccer) worlds, tasking competitors to apply the skills they learn in each challenge to win,”  Maljaars said.
