"55"
Quiver Distribution announced that the Indian-language international thriller "55" , from Scott Free Productions and FilmSharks, will be released in US theaters on August 29. Co-written and directed by Shyam P. Madiraju, the film tells the gripping story of a nameless pickpocket known only as 55, who, along with his gang of teenage orphans, roams the packed trains of Mumbai. When fate forces him to confront the daughter of one of his victims, his way of life will never be the same. He must decide whether to remain 55—or become more than a number in a city of 20 million.
The film is produced by Ridley Scott, Shyam P. Madiraju, Gavin Lurie, Brett Maddock, and Dori Zuckerman, with executive producers Paul Feig, Tom Moran, David Taghioff, Najeeb Khuda, Navin Shetty, and Munish Batra. FilmSharks is handling world sales, with many top-tier distributors already engaged for theatrical releases worldwide.
Shyam P. Madiraju, writer and director Madiraju expressed his enthusiasm about the film’s release: “The film screened as a non-completed work-in-progress at the Busan International Film Festival during COVID. Then Ridley Scott, Paul Feig, and Tom Moran saw it, and what felt like an unfinished journey suddenly found its champions. With them on board, we were able to bring it home—and now it's ready for the world to see," expressed.
Meanwhile, Producer Ridley Scott commented: “55 is simple, personal and beautiful. The way a good film should be".
Also, Guido Rud of FilmSharks noted: “55´is cinema at its richest point. It is a local story that flies internationally, exploring multiple layers and genres. You will find an urban thriller, a crime film, a coming-of-age story, a redemption tale, a hero's journey, and a love story all in one," noted.
Finally, Executive Producer Paul Feig added: “55´ is such a masterful film that delivers in so many ways. It's an emotional crowd-pleaser, a sometimes scary, sometimes funny, and always engaging look at the unseen inhabitants of Mumbai. Shyam Madiraju has taken an incredibly talented cast of young newcomers and gotten the performances of a lifetime out of them. I couldn't love this movie more," noted.
