Vitrina tracks global content projects in real-time across all stages: development, production, post-production, and release. By monitoring daily transactions like financing, commissioning, and green-lighting among production houses, streamers, and broadcasters, it follows sharp insights into industry trends, key players, and buyer behavior. In October 2024, global production volumes increased by 7.5% from September, with the Americas leading the growth with a 16% rise, EMEA 3%, and APAC 4% decline. Amazon MGM Studios/Prime Video and BET+ stood out this month, while Netflix, a key leader, and BBC and ITV saw slight dips in transaction volumes.

Drama led the genres for new productions, followed by documentary and comedy. From a language perspective, English productions represented 48% of the October projects, followed by Spanish and German productions. Last month's top players were Netflix, Prime Video, and BBC, as the top commissioners, followed by Channel 4. The streamers held 17% of the total production volume.

In the YOY analysis, the most significant development was that film and TV production volumes last October increased significantly compared to October 2023, reflecting a growth of approximately 19%. In October 2023, the strikes in Hollywood were still ongoing. Within the Americas, streamers and broadcasters commissioned productions, with the top languages being English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

SEASON RENEWALS
October has seen a decline in season renewals, which is traditionally a steady driver for businesses in the entertainment supply chain. While renewals help maintain viewer engagement and ensure consistent production, the decline signals a need for strategic shifts.

October saw a significant shift, with a 30% drop in renewals as the focus turned toward new productions. The Americas led renewals this month, overtaking EMEA’s dominance from September. Growth in Portuguese (Brazilian) language renewals was driven by Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV. Regional activity revealed that the Americas took the lead, Disney+ Hotstar and Nine Network largely drove APAC renewals, and S4C and BluTV led EMEA. Drama emerged as the most renewed genre, capturing top preference for the month.

One of the key deals of the month was the Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment for the "Mirzapur" film adaptation for 2026. Both companies are set to adapt the hit Indian series into a film for a 2026 release, marking a significant shift from streaming to theatrical. This move highlights the growing trend of successful digital content transitioning to the big screen, a fundamental shift in the entertainment industry that Vitrina can track across regions and platforms.
