Projections revealed by Emarketer and MoffetNatthanson reveal that free ad-supported service, Tubi will surpass $1 billion in U.S. ad revenue by 2022. The rate of advertising revenue growth places it approximately a year behind Pluto TV, one of Tubi’s chief competitors.
Fox acquired Tubi for $440 million just over one year ago to improve its monetization status. According to a research note from MoffettNathanson, Tubi brought in approximately $150 million in advertising revenue in 2020. The analyst firm predicts that figure will grow to $380 million in 2021, $650 million in 2022 and $1 billion in 2023.
Tubi, which reported 33 million monthly active users as of last September, drew about $150 million in advertising 2020, and should bring in $380 million this year and $650 million in 2022, he projects. Its light ad load compared to Pluto TV and Roku should help it attract viewers, and cross-selling with Fox broadcast should boost Tubi’s advertising.
Thi's year's projection has exceeded $300 million projection. In comparison, Pluto TV, the competing FAST owned by ViacomCBS, should surpass $1 billion in U.S. ad revenue by 2022, Fishman estimates.
