TV France International – the association for the international promotion of French audiovisual content – is once again working with the French Embassy in China on its initiative to promote French fiction. The new event will take place on 25 and 26 January 2021, at the French Institute in Beijing. Chinese buyers and audiovisual industry professionals are expected to attend.
TV France International launched a call for projects among for its members, which resulted in 24 applications from nine eligible companies, with a final selection of eight made by the embassy team. The projects that will be show in China are "Bright Minds" (1x90'+ 8x52’) produced by JLA Productions with the performances of Lola Dewaere, Sara Mortensen and Benoit Michel. "Parliament" Season 1 (10x26') from Cinétévé; "Fear by the lake" (6x52') distributed by Newen Connect and produced by Elephant Story and TF1; "The Promise" (6x52') distributed by Newen Connect and produced by Sortilèges Productions; "Paris Police 1900" (8x 60') from Tetra Media Fiction and AFPI and distributed by Studiocanal.
The other French titles are "UFO(s)" (12x30') distributed by Studiocanal and produced by Montebello Productions; "They were ten" (6x52') from Escazal Films and distributed by Federation Entertainment; and finally "Crime is her game" ( 3x90’) from Ramona Productions and distributed by Film & Picture.
“The beginning of the year is an opportunity to spotlight recent French series for the Chinese market,which is enjoying constant expansion,” said Sarah Hemar, Executive Director of TV France International. “Sales of French content in this region have quadrupled over 10 years, but there remains plenty ofroom to develop further. We are lucky to take part in initiatives like this with the Embassy – they are an extremely valuable addition to our year-round participation in international markets,” she adds.
"The first showcases of 2021, dedicated to French fiction, are a unique opportunity for Chinese buyers,distributors and producers to discover previously unseen French series that have seen success in France and which correspond to the expectations of Chinese audiences,” said Audiovisual Attaché, Tania Khali. “This session is particularly important since most international markets did not take place in personlast year. So, it’s also a valuable moment to for exchange and to discover content during actual showings.”
