"En el corredor de la muerte” is an original drama from Movistar+ that was premiered last September on the Spanish platform and was presented by Stusdiocanal to international buyers at the last Mipcom under the name "On Death Row".

The series tells the true story of Pablo Ibar, (played by Miguel Ángel Silvestre) a Spaniard sentenced to death in Miami for a triple murder he did not commit. The thriller is based on the homonymous book by journalist Nacho Carretero (Fariña) and it was a fact that resonated a lot in the Spain of the 90's. "I remember seeing the news of the case when I was little and it was something that struck me a lot," confessed the actor Miguel Ángel Silvestre to Señal News. "We have no death penalty in Spain and suddenly it was very shocking to know that the system could punish someone with death."

Silvestre said that he had only very superficial information about the  Pablo Ibar case when the producers offered him to participate in the series but he read the Carretero's book and also watched all the videos of Pablo where the contradictions of the judgments are shown. "I had an opinion formed about his innocence and decided to tell this story for two reasons, because I do not believe in the death penalty and because I believe in his innocence," said the actor.

According to Silvestre, “On Death Row” can attract international audiences because what happened to Pablo Ibar could happen to anyone and because reality exceeds fiction. "It is a case where we could all be in the skin of Pablo, it could have happened to anyone if we are in a country where there is a death penalty and we have some resemblance to a murderer," said Silvestre. "There is no evidence to prove that he is the murderer, only a very blurry photo where he shares a mustache and a haircut similar to that of the murderer, and only with that, he was convicted," says the actor.

Another great attraction of the series is the special love story that goes through it. When Pablo was arrested, he had an only three months relationship with his girlfriend Tanya Ibar. The night he was accused of committing the murders, he was actually sleeping in her house. Tanya testified at the trial but her testimony was not taken into account, but she promised Pablo that she would remain by his side. "He has been going to see him every Saturday for the last 25 years, driving 8 hours to get to jail, within the plot there is a very special love story," said Silvestre.

“On Death Row” is a series shot in Spanish and English, produced by Ramón Campos, Domingo Corral, Diego Sotelo, Teresa Fernández-Valdés from Movistar + and the award-winning Bambu Producciones, part from Studiocanal, who is in charge of the international distribution of the title. “I worked previously with Bambu Producciones and Movistar in ‘Velvet’ and I feel very grateful for the trust they placed in me to play Pablo Ibar,” Silvestre concluded.
