Pernel Media to produce Joan of Arc docudrama for Canal Plus Channels

Pernel Media has secured a commission from Groupe Canal Plus channels, Planete+ and C8, to produce a premium docudrama special "Joan of Arc - Woman, Warrior, Saint" retelling the epic story of French icon Joan of Arc.

Based on historical evidence, archeology and details from her trials, the film (1x90’) aims to reveal the true personality and story of "the Maid of Orleans’", featuring around 70% of dramatised reenactments. "Joan of Arc - Woman, Warrior, Saint" is directed by Alain Brunard and Nathalie Conscience and written by Christopher Holt, Guillaume Fleuret and Nathalie Conscience.

Pernel Media is also developing a version of the film for the international market for 2023. Executive producer for Pernel Media is Samuel Kissous. Christine Cauquelin commissioned the series for Planete+ and Frank Appietto for C8.

In only two years, Joan of Arc changed the course of history. Thanks to her faith, her charisma and courage, she saved the kingdom of France from civil war and the English invasion. Her story has inspired hundreds of books and movies and transformed her into the world-famous icon we know. She was canonised as a saint by the Catholic Church as recently as 1920.

Featuring evidence presented at her 1431 heresy trial in Normandy and subsequent 1456 rehabilitation trial, historical experts will debunk the myths surrounding the French national heroine.
