Apple TV+ recently ordered its first Russian-language original, "Container." The title, co-produced by Apple alongside Start, is set to air on the streaming platform in Spring 2022.
The series, directed by Maksim Sveshnikov from a screenplay written by Alexey Lyapichev, follows the release of other titles that were not made originally in English, such as "Tehran" and "Dr. Brain." It does, however, serve as the first original inspired by a French-language title. Eduard Iloyan, Vitaly Shlyappo, Alexey Trotsyuk, Denis Zhalinsky, and Mikhail Tkachenko, will serve as producers for the project.
It previously aired in Russia and CIS on START in September, and upon debuting on Apple TV+, the TV show will be the first of many that will be available on the outlet through a deal with Alexander Rodnyansky’s production company AR Content, which is set to “deliver a slate of Russian-language and multi-language shows to Apple.”
The show stars The Bourne Supremacy’s Oksana Akinshina alongside Russian screen stars Filipp Yankovskiy (The Three Musketeers), Marusya Fomina (Gold Diggers), and Artem Bystrov (Earthquake). Described as “bold” and “unflinching,” the series sees Akinshina play Sasha, a surrogate mother hiding a dangerous secret who reluctantly finds herself ensconced in the luxurious home of the rich family whose baby she is gestating. As Sasha navigates the privilege and politics of the super-rich, both her secrets and theirs threaten to collide.
