Mipcom 2023: Sessions confirmed for Mipcom Cannes, Mipjunior Kids Screenings

Mipcom Cannes recently unveiled details about the 39th edition of the International TV Co-Production & Entertainment Content Market, scheduled to take place on 16-19 October, and the 31st edition of its Mipjunior Kids Screenings & Co-Production Market, scheduled to take place from 13-15 October. “Third party distribution and acquisitions business is back in full force at Mipcom Cannes” Lucy Smith, Director of Mipcom and MipJunior said. "Studios and streamers are aggressively pursuing new revenue 'streams' and distributors embracing all models of distribution across broadcast, cable, streaming and FAST."

The Mipcom Cannes Exhibition & Content Market will welcome more than 250 exhibitors from over 40 countries, including major studios, production and distribution groups, such as All3Media International, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, Banijay Rights, BETA Film, FOX Entertainment Global, NBCUniversal International, Paramount Global Content Distribution, Federation Studios, France tv distribution, Fremantle, Global Screen, ITV Studios, The Mediapro Studio, Mediawan, Movistar+, Red Arrow Studios International, Studiocanal, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery, among various others. So far, 16 countries have also confirmed National Pavilions, hosting hundreds of producers and distributors. 

The conferences and events confirmed to take place during the event include AI and FAST, set to take place at the MIP Lab. The session will offer insight about the global advances in technology and streaming related to AI and Fast. The discussion will be followed by the AI Summit, a new half-day summit scheduled for Tuesday, 17 October, offering debates and analysis with AI experts onstage. The executives will discuss how the technology has impacted the international content business, and highlight the pros and cons of its advancements.

The Fast & Global Summit, a two-day Fast Channel summit scheduled for Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, will cover blueprint and discuss opportunities to distribute and program FAST channels across international markets and territories. The Seaview Producers Hub is also on the schedule following the successful launch of the 1,000 SQM conference and networking venue last year. This session will cover information about co-production partnerships and financing across scripted and unscripted content. 

Mipjunior will return to the JW Marriott in Cannes on October 13-15. This time, the event will add a new half-day pre-opening program intended to give buyers access to the Mipjunior Screenings Library on Friday, 13 October, followed by a welcome reception. In addition, the 7th edition of the Diversify TV Awards also made it to this year’s Mipcom Cannes, scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 17, followed by a cocktail lunch. The awards were organized in collaboration with founding partner Diversify TV, and in association with Founding Presenting Partner A+E Networks, and supporting partners All3Media International, Telefilm Canada / Canada Media Fund and OUTtv.

The International Format Awards return to Cannes in October for the 12th edition, co produced by C21Media, FRAPA and EMC, in association with Mipcom Cannes. The event will take place on Sunday 15 October. This year, the Television Business International’s Content Innovation Awards(CIAs) will take place at the Palais des Festival in 2023. The awards recognize companies, individuals and content across 17 categories at the forefront of innovation within the global television industry. The ceremony will kick off on Wednesday evening, 18 October.

Other sessions scheduled to take place during the conference include Women In Global Entertainment Power Lunch, co-hosted by A+E Networks, the Variety Vanguard Award, World Screen Trendsetter Award, Opening Night Party, The Frapa Summit, And Fresh Tv presentation from The Wit. "This is driving a robust exhibition floor for 2023 and heightened interest for the second year of our Co-Production Hub," Lucy Smith, Director of Mipcom and MipJunior said."We believe, more than ever, that technology is driving innovation, and our focus at Mipcom Cannes on FAST and AI aims to give distributors even more avenues to monetise new content and existing catalogs internationally.”
